Night & Day: "Summer" Campy

On its Web site’s FAQ, Burlesque Houston answer[ed] what must be the most F-ly A-ed Q — “Is there nudity?” — with, “Our stripteasers never wear less than G-strings and pasties.” Technically it might not be nudity, but if you were in public with nothing but small slivers of cloth covering your nipples and pubic area, wouldn’t you feel a little… nude? That’s just one language choice of this “old-school burlesque troupe,” who consider themselves “stripteasers” and “performers” — not strippers.

Oh well, no matter what terms are used, we respect Burlesque Houston for putting on a show that provides more than just semi-nude bodies (though those are appreciated, of course). It’s also a cheeky, honest mix of comedy, dance and song, evoking vaudeville-style entertainment. The group presents “Summer Sizzles” today. It’s nearly October but by “summer,” maybe this language-finicky troupe means “a season when it’s insufferably hot out” — a good chunk of the year for Houston — or “a time to wear little clothing” — 12 months of the year for Burlesque Houston.
